Sunday 2nd June 2013

First Sunday after Trinity

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised. Today we hear of a centurion who, although he himself is not a Jew, recognises the authority of Jesus and his power to command the healing of the sick. Let us, with all God’s people, declare his glory among the nations and his wonders among all people.

8.00am Holy Communion

Readings: 1 Kings 8 v 22-23 & 41-43, Luke 7 v 1-10

10.00am All Age Family Eucharist

Hymns: 45, 865, 676, 54
Communion: 47, 648, 212, 856

First Reading    Psalm 96 v 1-9
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Second Reading     Luke 7 v 1-10
A centurion, a Gentile, recognises the authority of Jesus and through messengers asks him to heal his slave. Jesus commends the faith of the centurion and the slave is healed.

 6.00pm Evensong
Readings: Genesis 4 v 1-16, Mark 3 v 7-19
Hymns: 347, 327, 638
Psalm 39 v1-8

Lighthouse Shine Out
It’s getting towards that time of year again when Lighthouse begins to shine about what we have planned for the children of the parish! Our next event this year is Lighthouse Lunch on 21st June at 12pm in the Oasis Centre. Tickets are £20 and include a 2 course meal, coffee and wine and great company. This was a resounding success last year so please make sure you get your tickets well in advance from Melanie Calver (07808 765 029). We are also calling on our wonderful cake makers! We rely solely on donations to ensure we can provide Lighthouse Week free of charge to all children who want to come and one of our biggest incomes is from selling all your lovely cakes during the week in our cafe. So please – if you can make a cake let Melanie Calver know your details including name, contact number and type of cake.

And last but not least...we need adults who are prepared to lead one or two Fiesta sessions in the evenings for the teenage helpers. All the preparation will be done for you, so please if you can spare 3 hours to lead our teenagers through some fun activities we would very much like to hear from you! Lighthouse week runs from Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd.

This is followed by an opportunity to visit the church and to view the special 75th Anniversary Exhibition on the history of the church.
