The Junior Church (10 o’clock Club) meet in the Church Hall before coming into Church for Communion

Sunday 8th March 2015
Third Sunday of Lent

We come together as the people of God to worship and sing praise to God. But there is something more: on this Third Sunday of Lent, we reflect on our Lord – not just the bringer of peace and joy, though that is what he does; we reflect on Jesus the maker of change and bringer of turmoil, and stand together to examine what that means for us.

10.00am Parish Eucharist
Hymns: 98, 420, 225, 689
Communion anthem: Agnus Dei (Trinity Mass)
Communion hymns: 151, 682

First Reading   Exodus 20:1-17
After the great liberation from captivity in Egypt, God sets out rules and practices that will define the people of Israel.

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
Paul writes that what seems like utter foolishness to the unconvinced is new life and hope to the ones who have been transformed by its power.

Gospel  John 2:13-22
Right at the beginning of John’s Gospel, Jesus’ actions shadow the great change and disruption his death and resurrection will bring about when the story closes.

11.30am Owlswick Holy Communion
Readings: 1 Corinthians 1 v 18-25, John 2 v 13-22

6.00pm Evensong
Readings: Exodus 5 v 1 - Ch 6 v 1, Philippians 3 v 4b-14
Hymns: 572, Psalm 12, 115, 327

Prayer for the week
Holy God, the folly of the cross mocks our human wisdom, and the weakness of the crucified puts worldly power to shame. Banish from our hearts every pretence of might and of knowledge, that by the power flowing from Christ’s resurrection your people may be raised up from the death of sin and fashioned into a living temple of your glory. Grant this through Christ, our liberator from sin, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and mighty God forever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming week for:

  • The peace and stability of all peoples and for the leaders of the nations
  • All who open up the church daily and for others who welcome people to our church services
  • All who serve the community in unseen and unacknowledged ways, for acts of kindness done without any expectation of reward or praise
  • The Bishop of Buckingham, The Archdeacon of Buckingham, and the Parish Development Adviser
  • Town Farm Barns (PR) Shootacre Lane (B)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Uncle Frank, Katy, Albert and Georgina Cole, Gillian Brady
  • The recently departed: Ray Ingram
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Marjorie Browne, Ethel Seager, Anthony Boyson.

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
Anorexia and Bulimia Care (ABC) www.anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk  provides on-going care, emotional support and practical guidance for anyone affected by eating disorders.
