The Junior Church (10 o’clock Club) meet in the Church Hall before coming into Church for Communion

Sunday 11th October 2015

Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity

Jesus warned that those who put their faith in financial wealth will never find God’s kingdom. Let us join in worship today of our God who brings us riches worth more than all the money in the world.

10.00am Parish Eucharist

Hymns: 756, 90 v1-12, 572, 689
Communion: 374, 66, 455

First Reading     Job 23:1-9 & 16-end
Job longs to meet with God in order to voice his complaints, but is unable to find God in his (Job’s) darkness.

Second Reading     Hebrews 4:12-end
The writer to the Hebrews identifies Jesus as the greatest high priest, able to intercede for us because he is human as we are, yet, unlike us, is sinless.

Gospel     Mark 10:17-31
Both a rich man and the disciples are shocked when Jesus turns the received wisdom of the day on its head by stating that those whose life focus is on wealth will never discover God’s kingdom with all its richness.

11.15am World War One Commemoration at the war memorial

11.30am Owlswick Holy Communion
Readings: Psalm 90:1-12, Mark 10 v 17-31
3.00pm Oxford Diocese Harvest Festival for Deaf  and Hard of Hearing (see notices)

6.00pm Evensong

Readings: Joshua 5 v 13-Ch 6 v 20, Matthew 11 v 20-end
Hymns: 606, Psalm 127, 310, 262

Prayer of the week

God of wisdom, whose word probes the motives of our hearts, with you all things are possible. Let worldly treasure not keep us from Jesus, who looks on us with love. Free us to leave all things and follow him, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • Peace in places like Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine and for the work of Nobel Prize winners
  • The role of the United Nations, NATO and other global organisations in creating a stable and fair society
  • The running of the NHS amidst large budget deficits
  • Those who serve the food that we buy and that they may receive a fair wage for their labour.
  • Princes Risborough Primary School, its pupils, staff, head and governors.
  • Dunsmore Avenue & Ride (MR) Broad Leys & Brooke Road (PR)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Uncle Frank, Anne Clark, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, baby Molly
    • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Neil Radford, Brian Farrelly, Joan Turnbull, John Miller

Ride and Stride for Bucks Historic Churches Trust
Although we only had three riders this year, they raised the superb total of £605! So many congratulations to them and thanks to all their sponsors. We had fifty- one participants visiting St Dunstan's and St Peter's. Thank you to those who welcomed them. The proceeds are shared between the Trust and our two churches.

Proposed parking restrictions in Mill Lane
Thank you to everyone who expressed their views. The proposals to include a single yellow line no waiting restriction between 10am and 11am & 2pm and 3pm have now been dropped and the double yellow lines at junctions kept. This should enable local residents easier access on to Mill Lane at busy times without having a negative impact on everyday church and community activities. The revised proposals can be found at http://www.transportforbucks.net/Roadworks-Centre/Schemes-and-projects/Our-schemes-and-projects/Princes-Risborough-amendments-to-parking.aspx and a copy is also on the noticeboard in the church porch. Thank you again for your support. James

Upgrading of Heating and Installation of New Boiler
The new boiler and new radiators have been successfully installed. We hope you notice the difference which should result in more instant and evenly spread heat throughout the church building. There will be a few weeks during which we will need to fine tune the system and the boiler settings, think about redecorating various parts of the church and the existing radiators, as well as slightly altering the position of some of the pews and redesigning the boxing in of the pipes in the children’s corner. If you have any comments please let James, Charlie or Susanne know, especially if you are too cold or too hot!

Fellowship Group
“Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 2.00pm The next walk is on Tuesday 27th October, meeting in the lay-by at 9.15am – everyone is welcome. All are welcome to this group’s activities.

Signed Harvest Festival, Sunday October 11th at 3.00pm
Organised by the Oxford Diocesan Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, everyone is warmly invited to this service. There will be a loop system, Power-point presentation of the service and lip speaker. Please bring gifts of fruit, vegetables and other produce for a Harvest Auction.  Refreshments will be available afterwards.

Later Group
Later is a group of young people predominantly in years 7-11 who meet occasionally for fun, friendship, faith and food. An evening is planned for Sunday October 18th from 6-8pm at Princes Risborough Methodist Church which will include table tennis, hot dogs and chips. If you’d like to come please let Fran chris-fran@live.com know as soon as possible so she can buy in the food (lots of it). James

Confirmation Sessions and Service
A confirmation class for adults and children is being held at the Rectory on Saturday October 17th and Saturday October 24th from 2.30-4.30pm. The Confirmation service itself will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Bledlow on Sunday November 1st at 6pm. If you would like to consider being confirmed please contact James. Confirmation is often seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism.

The Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 21st October. All welcome!

Time to Remember Service (Sunday November 1st, 3pm)
This service contains well-known hymns and prayers as we cherish the memories of those we love but see no longer. The names of individuals whom we wish to remember can be added to the sheet on the table in church. These will be read out as part of the service and there will be refreshments afterwards. James

Risborough in Bloom
We are pleased to be advised that Risborough was awarded two Silver Awards under the Town and Parks category in the regional Britain in Bloom Awards. The judges were extremely impressed with what they saw considering the Town only had two months to prepare! Thanks for all involved (Monks Risborough Horticultural Society, St. Dunstan's Church, Monks Risborough Primary School, Bucks Free Press) and we are looking forward to making our entry for 2016 bigger & better. If you would like to be part of Risborough in Bloom, please do contact us or if you have any ideas that you would like us to consider, we would love to hear from you! Princes Risborough Town Council kirsty@princesrisborough.com or 275912

A local solicitor writes your Will without charging their normal fee. Instead you are invited to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid. The suggested donation is £95 for a basic single Will or £150 for a pair of basic mirror Wills. More details can be found at http://www.willaid.org.uk/ and in next week’s pew sheet. James
