Sunday 15th May
Day of Pentecost

On this day of Pentecost, we rejoice in the power of the Holy Spirit promised to us by Jesus and sent to us by the Father. Together we can share in God’s loving work.

10.00am Parish Communion
Hymns: 127, 367, 163
Psalm: 104 v 24-end
Communion: 615, 84, 948

First Reading Genesis 11:1-9
People’s ambitions tempt them to bypass God, seeking to reach heaven through their own efforts. Dispersing the human race and dividing their languages, God reasserts their need for divine assistance.

Second Reading Acts 2:1-21
Joel’s prophecy helps Peter explain Pentecost’s restorative miracle: through the common language of God’s Spirit, we are empowered to share the good news of salvation, regardless of gender, age, class or race.

Gospel John 14:8 -17
When Philip fails to see that Father and Son work together, Jesus promises they will send the Spirit to enable us all to share in God’s life and work, loving God and one another, and helping others to do so.

6.00pm Christian Aid Service at St. Dunstan’s (organised by Churches Together in Risborough)
Hymns: 84, 88, 752 & 666

6.00pm ‘Later’ youth group meets at Princes Risborough Methodist Church

Prayer of the week
God of majesty and glory, you bring us to the day that crowns our joyful Easter feast. Open for us the fountain of living waters promised to the faithful, that the outpouring of the Spirit may reveal Christ's glory and enlighten all who wait in hope for the glorious day of redemption. We ask this through Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • The work of Christian Aid and those people they seek to help
  • World Council of Churches, for the leaders of the different denominations, that the Holy Spirit may lead us by his gifts to witness to God's loving purpose
  • Young people taking exams that they may find the time, space and concentration to study, to enable them to do their best.
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of The Baptist Chapel in Speen
  • Wheelwright Road (L) Perry Lane (B)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, Dave Skinner,
  • The recently departed: Brenda Farrelly, Tessa Freier
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time: Monica Arnold

Thank you very much for all the replies regarding financial giving to St. Dunstan’s/St. Peter’s. There have been generous one-off donations as well as significant sums pledged in standing orders of over £6,000 per annum. The aspiration is to increase the giving by standing order by £22,000 so that the church does not continue to run at a deficit for the foreseeable future. If you have not yet given this matter your consideration, please can I encourage you to do so. James
