Sunday 30th October
All Saints’ Sunday (Fourth Sunday before Advent)

As Christ’s followers, we are part of the great community of saints down the ages and across the world. So let us join with them in spirit as we gather to worship.

10.00am Parish Communion

Hymns: 755, 737 & 104
Communion: 356, 77, 168
Psalm 149

First Reading               Daniel 7:1-3, 15-18
The prophet is shown that his dream signifies that the saints will have a share in God’s eternal kingdom – a kingdom that will outlast and supersede all passing earthly empires.

Second Reading           Ephesians 1:11-end
Paul declares that Christians are chosen by God and destined as his saints for a glorious heavenly inheritance. He prays that the Spirit’s power will enable them to grow in hope and knowledge of Christ.

Gospel                                     Luke 6:20-31
Jesus declares that the blessedness of those who serve him cannot be measured in earthly plenty and contentment. He calls his disciples to express his unconditional love, even towards their enemies.

3.00pm Time to Remember

Prayer of the Week

All-holy God, you call your people to holiness. As we keep the festival of your saints, give us their meekness and poverty of spirit, a thirst for righteousness, and purity of heart. May we share with them the richness of your kingdom and be clothed in the glory you bestow. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • And end to the hostilities and suffering in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and other troubled parts of the world
  • Those leaving the ‘Jungle’ in Calais, especially children
  • The use of water for recreation and pray for its wise stewardship
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of Kimble Free Church.
  • Icknield Court Nursing Home (PR) The Old School House (L)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Richard Allwood, Pat Kimber

Lighthouse Representative Required
Lighthouse is an enormously successful Christian holiday week for children at the start of the summer holidays. Currently there is no representation from this church on the committee which meets once a month, alternating between Monday and Tuesday evenings. The main role is to act as a point of communication with the rest of the congregation so that as a church we can fully play our part in this holiday week. If you would like to find out more information then please speak to Ann Myers or James.
