Fourth Sunday of Lent – Mothering Sunday

In the middle of Lent we get a joyous glimpse of new life. Faith in Christ means always having the opportunity to turn to God, in whom we experience not only forgiveness, but welcome, love and possibility.

10.00am Mothering Sunday Service (no Communion)

Reading: 1 Corinthians 13
Hymns: 108, 605, 819, 332, 856, 631.
Anthem: Be still for the presence of the Lord

6.00pm Evensong
Readings: Joshua 5.9-12, Luke 15.1-3 & 11b-end.
Hymns: 333, 755, 13 ; Psalm: 32

Prayer of the week:
God of compassion, you await the sinner’s return and spread a feast to welcome home the lost. Save us from temptations that lead away from you, and draw us back by the constancy of your love, that we may take our place in your household and gladly share our inheritance with others. Grant this through Christ, our liberator from sin, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and mighty God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • A clear and constructive way forward to the current Brexit turmoil that brings the greatest good to the greatest number of people.
  • Those who have lost everything as a result of the devastating floods in southern Africa, that they will find the comfort, shelter and support that they need
  • All those who have ‘mothered’ us in our lives and nurtured us in our journey of faith
  • The example set by religious communities, who challenge our materialism by service of the word of God.
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of Kimble Free Church.
  • Icknield Court Nursing Home (PR) The Old School House (L)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Pam Johnson, Pam Lidgley, Sue Caudery, Iris Hutchison, Veronica Parker, Pam Strickland, Mary Copcutt, John Hobson and Mary Kent
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Georgina Cole, Ginny Gibbs, Cathy Owen, Gail, Suzy Cooper, Anna Ballard, Jonathan Kelly and Joshua
  • The recently departed: Joan Ballance
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Eric Miller, Robin Lane, Tilde Bradley, Tom Rutland, Kevin Montgomery.
Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
