Prayer of the Week
God of glory, by the raising of your Son you have broken the chains of death and hell: fill your Church with faith and hope; for a new day has dawned, creation is restored, and the way to life stands open in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The people of Brussels, in the wake of the attacks there
  • Those tempted to commit violent acts that their hearts may be turned to follow the ways of peace.
  • Those parts of the world that are torn apart by war, especially for the people of Syria in the continuing conflict there
  • All refugees; for those forced to leave their homes through conflict, poverty or oppression
  • All those who serve others by bringing joy, those who make us laugh and sing, all who make our day brighter and better
  • Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Doctors, nurses, other staff, and their patients.
  • Shortborough Avenue (PR) Turnip End (Sp)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Uncle Frank, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, Dave Skinner,
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Dora Hobson, Francis Butt, John Newport

Super Soup Day
We raised £197.10, which is a record! Some of this money could be spent on giving a family a goat £40, chickens £18, fruit and vegetable seeds £10, or on school dinners for 45 children £20. Massive thanks to the soup makers, the kitchen team and all of you who came along.

Weeding in the churchyard extension

On Saturday April 2nd there will be a short weeding session to help clear the weeds around the new hedging from 10.30 am until midday. Please turn up on the day suitably equipped or contact Mick White (346536) if you’re interested in helping out.

Stewardship Letter
Last year the parish accounts showed a deficit of about £30,000 and this year’s deficit is projected to be about £26,000. A letter will be going to members of the congregation at the beginning of April explaining all of this in further detail so that people can make an informed decision about their financial giving to St. Dunstan’s/St. Peter’s. The average weekly outgoings of the church are about £2,500 and the average Sunday collection at services about £250. James

2016 Owlswick Chapel Speaker Evenings
In celebration of Owlswick Chapel’s 150th anniversary, the first of three Speaker Evenings in the chapel will take place on Thursday 7th April at 8.00pm with a ‘light hearted look at scuba diving’ by Dave and Jane Rogers. Each evening will be sociable, informative, and last about an hour. Contributions are asked of £5 per person per evening, payable on the door, to cover costs including wine and soft drinks. If you wish to reserve a seat, please contact Roz Wates on 01844 274417; email roz@rosalindwates.co.uk. Details of other anniversary evenings and events at Owlswick Chapel can be found in the April/May edition of the Parish Newsletter.

Annual Meetings - Monday April 11th

With drinks from 7.30pm and the meetings starting at 8pm this is an important opportunity to review parish life, think about initiatives for the coming year and thank various people who have contributed enormously to the life of the parish. An ‘annual meeting pack’ is available on the website www.stdunstanschurch.com and also in an orange cardboard box near to the main entrance door for people to read beforehand. Please make every effort to attend and if you’re not able to make it please let Douglas Miller know on 01844 343206 douglas@pipersloft.co.uk If you’re not able to come to the meeting it would be helpful to return the paper version of the ‘annual meeting pack’ beforehand to save on production costs. Thank you. James
